Appleton Academy
Designed by London-based Architects BDP, Appleton Academy accommodates 1,400 pupils and is formed of a curved, U-shaped structure, sloped roof and internal winter garden. It is a Yorkshire School providing education for children of 3-19 years of age. Sponsored by Bradford College, the academy is named after Sir Edward Appleton, a Nobel Prize winning scientist who both studied and worked there.
H&J Martin appointed Lindner Prater to deliver a complete building envelope solution. The works included a striking cedar rain screen finish to the exterior of the building, together with Reynaers Eco 50 windows and ConceptWall 50 curtain walling with insert vents.
The result is a striking building that rises from the ground to take a commanding position on the surrounding landscape.
