The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminar, titled ‘Memories of Green - How innovation in glazing systems helps fulfil the human need for wellbeing and connection with nature’ delves into the relationship between the interior and external surroundings of buildings, and how to utilise green spaces to become an extension of indoor living.

The CPD was developed by architect, and Vice President of the Manchester Society of Architects Paul Iddon, and focuses on the concept of biophilia – the human need for a connection with nature – and how glazing systems can be used to apply this concept to building design.

The new seminar will provide insight into the ways architects can use sliding and folding doors, and large glazing systems, to enhance the visual connection to nature, framing the outside world and increasing natural light to enhance physical and mental health.

The CPD outlines the design credentials, sustainability benefits and performance standards of Reynaers’ products, and looks at the ways the company’s expertise can support architects in developing designs rooted in biophilic principles.

The seminar also looks at testing and compliance to ensure wellbeing and safety within the built environment, including looking at the importance of specification and the impact of the natural world on product performance and building safety.

Samantha Hill, Head of Marketing at Reynaers Aluminium UK, said:

“At Reynaers we are committed to developing aluminium systems that enable architects to realise their vision through the innovative use of glazed architecture, and who better to write a CPD for architects than a well-respected architect? This thought has led to our new CPD series written by an architect to provide unique and interesting angles on the practical specification of glazing systems and connect architectural concepts with our innovative products and services.  We released ‘The Best of All Possible Worlds’ earlier this year which focuses on curtain walling, and now our latest CPD.

“’Memories of Green’ builds upon the popular use of glazed systems to open out homes and buildings to maximise the connection to the outdoors. It demonstrates ideas that can be harnessed to elevate glazing beyond an aesthetic, deepening the connection between architecture and the natural world.

“Content includes why the concept of biophilic design is important and how these ideas can be used in practical terms by looking at case studies that demonstrate the successful symbiosis of architecture and nature.”

“The benefits of nature on wellbeing are well-documented and we aim to offer an insight into how to harness this on a practical level, through the use of glazed architecture.”
