Which type of treatments are available & when to use?
In the past for aggressive environments, in which aluminum solutions were used, always Pré-anodization (Seaside PA) treatment combined with a coating layer was used.
Since October 2015 different pré-treatments are available, according to following Principles:
Agressive environments (Area 1): Seaside PA (pré-anodization)
- Coastal area up till 1 km inland.
- Swimming pool environments
- Industrial sites with strong onsite pollution within 1km radius
Treatment + Finish:
- Degreasing & etching >2g/m²
- 3µ-8µ anodizing layer, ensures adhesion and corrosion resistance
- Finish (Satin/Coatex/ ...) layer of minimum 60µ
Mild-aggressive environments (Area 2): Seaside A (surplus etching, 2grams/m²)
- Coastal area between 1km & 10km.
- Proximity to railways
- Local strong pollution like estuaries of large rivers, cattle farms, Airports, ...
Treatment + Finish:
- Degreasing & etching =2g/m²
- Conversion layer to ensure adhesion
- Finish (Satin/Coatex/...) layer of minimum 60µ
Non-aggressive environments (Area 3): Standard
For all other areas which do not fall under Area 1 or 2, the standard treatment is sufficient.
Treatment + Finish:
- Degreasing & etching =>1g/m²
- Conversion layer to ensure adhesion
- Finish (Satin/Coatex/...) layer of minimum 60µ
The above solutions for "Agressive" and " Mild-aggressive" are only possible assuming an increased maintenance frequency, compliance with installation instructions & our alloy of our aluminum profiles.
