Battersea Power Station - Faraday House
The Faraday House development was part of the first phase of the Battersea Power Station redevelopment in London. It is a building with identity and imagination and a golden glittering billboard for the project that provides homes of exceptional quality on a difficult, linear site.
Acoustics was a big consideration with this job being adjacent to busy railway lines. Battersea Power Station is at the heart of one of central London’s largest new developments which will see this vast 42- acre (over 8 million sq. ft.) former industrial brownfield redeveloped. It is a Grade-II listed former electric power plant on the River Thames. The redevelopment of this site will create a mixed-use sustainable development offering commercial and retail functions as well as residential, cultural, and event spaces interspersed with community facilities and a zero-carbon energy plant for the adaptive reuse of the power station itself. The project will create 3,444 new residential homes, 517 affordable homes, 18 acres of public space and six acres of riverside park, as well as restoring the power station.
Faraday House is a long, slim 8-storey housing block which is formed from a series of stacked apartments that curve in line with the railway tracks. The building is clad in gold copper alloy; a bright, folded metal with a hand finished aesthetic, giving it a striking identity as well as reflecting warm light into spaces around the building. The golden ConceptWall 60 façade system from Reynaers Aluminium is a playful marker of the regeneration project.
