AVALON, the Virtual Reality Room at the Reynaers Campus in Belgium, lets you visit future buildings through a shared virtual reality experience. Imagine walking into a building which is still in the design phase. Together with your project partners you can navigate through different spaces and review any design aspect by adjusting dimensions of rooms or building elements and change colours and materials. This powerful tool radically changes the way the design of a building is evaluated and visualised.
The AVALON VR Room creates an ideal environment for joint experience and collaboration between architects, investors, contractors and Reynaers experts. You can bring together the different stakeholders of a project for a virtual visit and for 3D-evaluation of buildings and solutions.
WHAT CAN AVALON DO FOR YOU AND YOUR PROJECT?
AVALON turns your architectural 3D-model (Revit, Archicad, Sketchup, Navisworks,…) into a virtual model you can step into, enabling you to review all kind of design and technical aspects from inside or around the building. Changes to the model can be made real-time, allowing you and the customer to evaluate the different options in the most realistic way and improving the decision-making process.
Additionally a dedicated generic model of both a high-rise office building and a private house are created to be able to exchange, configure and experience Reynaers products in a most realistic 3D building environment.
AVALON can be easily turned into a dedicated project meeting room to watch and discuss different files from different partners by switching from 2D to 3D view and back.
HOW DOES AVALON WORK?
AVALON is a high-end projection-based Virtual Reality room, specifically configured for architectural applications and for groups of up to 8 people. Five-sided projection immerses the user into an ultimate VR experience. 25 Projectors with leading edge laser technology create vivid high resolution images, illuminating your architectural ideas. Active 3D glasses create a stereoscopic image and track your movements, generating the 3D-illusion but still allowing you to see the people around you.
AVALON has a powerful cluster of computers to handle complex architectural models and process real-time rendering. The dedicated middleware software can display files of over 200 commonly used applications such as Revit, Archicad, SketchUp and Navisworks as high-quality, fully navigable virtual models. While the user navigates through the model with the control stick, the operator can still make changes in the design software.
This impressive set of hardware and software is designed to bring your architectural ideas to life and to create at every stage the best possible visualisation of your building project.
Use Avalon throughout your design process
Early concepts can be visualized, experienced, evaluated and adapted at the same time. Watch 3D models up close and make changes on the go.
By using real-time design evaluation, variants can be tested and time and costs can be reduced.
SOFTWARE: SketchUp, Autodesk Revit, Graphisoft Archicad, Autodesk 3DS Max, Enscape
TECHNICAL EVALUATION & BIM
3D models can be watched up close to evaluate and discuss all kinds of technical issues. VR can help to visualize, understand and evaluate extremely complex files. You can navigate through complex BIM models and perform clash detections. Detection of building mistakes early in the process reduces cost and improves efficiency drastically.
SOFTWARE: Autodesk Revit, Graphisoft Archicad, Autodesk Navisworks
HIGH QUALITY DESIGN EVALUATION
VR allows to move inside the simulated environment and inspect up close. Navigable rendered scenes can be used to evaluate the design. Natural and artificial lighting conditions, furniture layouts, surrounding and materiality are some of the features that can be modified within the VR environment.
SOFTWARE: Unreal Engine 4
